Baptism Policy
Saint John's welcomes all those who seek the sacrament of baptism. (Naturally if you are an active member of another Episcopal parish, or another denomination, then it would be appropriate and right that you seek baptism there.)
For children, the service of Holy Baptism takes place during one of the regular Sunday morning services. There are specific Sundays dedicated to this.

On the Saturday prior to each Baptism Sunday parents and Godparents of the children to be baptized are invited to a special morning of preparation, usually from 9 am - 11 am. This is an important and essential session. During this time Kim McPherson, our Director of Religious Education, will be in conversation in an informal way to share the meaning of Baptism, and its context within the life of the Church. Kim will also share information about the many exciting programs that Saint John's offers for children, the work of the nursery, and how you can become part of the Cathedral community and live into the promises of your baby's baptism. The morning concludes with a careful look at the details of the baptism service that will take place the following day. We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with all that will happen - what to say, and where to sit and stand - so that you can take part fully in the service and enjoy the occasion.
You can talk to one of the clergy about baptism, or you can contact Ms. Chris Goodfellow. She will mail you a baptism application form, or you can click here for a copy, which you can then mail to the Cathedral. When we have received the completed form we will be in touch with you to confirm the date and time of the service that you have requested, and to answer any questions that you may have.
