Baptism Dates
Holy Baptism is administered on specific Sundays during the year, within the context of the service of The Holy Eucharist. As policy there is no provision for separate or private baptisms—emergency baptism being the exception. There is good reason for setting aside specific dates: Several of the Sundays mark major Festivals in the Church year (The Baptism of Our Lord, Easter-tide, the Day of Pentecost, and All Saints’ Day), when it is especially appropriate to welcome the newly baptized; also the Rite of Holy Baptism requires special integration into our usual Sunday liturgies, and our form of worship is modified to accommodate this.
Please note that for practical and liturgical reasons there is a limit on the number of baptism families we are able to accommodate at each service. The availability of published dates is dependent on how many applications have already been received. When you send in your application form, please indicate your preferred date. On receipt of your application we will contact you and confirm the availability (or otherwise) of the date you have requested. Please be ready to consider an alternative date or time.
† The date you are seeking will be only be assured after you been contacted by the Cathedral. Please do not make family travel plans and commitments until you have a confirmed date from us.
‡ Please submit your application at least six weeks before your preferred baptism date, marked for the attention of: Ms. Chris Goodfellow, Clergy Administrator. You may fax your form directly to Chris at: 303-831-8949.

November 4, 9:00 am & 11:15 am
On the Saturday prior to each Baptism Sunday parents and Godparents of the children to be baptized are required to attend a special morning of learning and preparation (see dates and times above). This is an important, and essential, two hour session. Parents must make a firm commitment to attend for the full two hours.
During this time Kim McPherson, our Director of Religious Education, will be in conversation in an informal way to share the meaning of Baptism, and its context within the life of the Church. Kim will also share information about the many programs that Saint John’s offers for children, the work of the nursery, and how you can become part of the Cathedral community and live into the promises of your child’s baptism.
The morning will conclude with a careful look at the logistical details of the baptism service. We want to make sure that everyone is comfortable with all that will happen—what to say, and where to sit and stand—so that you can take part fully in the service, and that the occasion be joyful and meaningful for everyone.
