Sundays for Children (Ages 3 - Grade 5)

Sunday formation classes and children's worship will begin again on Sunday, September 17. For more information, please contact our Christian Education Administrator, John Putnam.

Children's Chapel

We offer Children’s Chapel for the first part of the 9:00 am service for children ages 3 and up, in Saint Francis Chapel (2nd floor, up the stairs from the Welcome Center).  This is a child-friendly version of the Liturgy of the Word. Children come into the Cathedral in time to join parents for Communion. Parents are welcome to stay or sign in their children.

Godly Play, (Ages 3 - 3rd Grade)

In Godly Play, we create a safe and beautiful space where children are deeply respected as they see, hear and wonder about stories from the Bible or another part of our Episcopal tradition. Using hands-on  materials and “wondering questions” to reflect on the story together, children then choose from a variety of materials—art supplies, building materials, books, etc —to make their own creative responses, and to help make the stories truly their own. Prayers and a feast (snack) round out the session.

• 3-4 year olds: Preschool Godly Play, Room 103
• K-1st Grades: Godly Play Class, Room 101
• 2nd-3rd Grades: Godly Play for Older Kids, Room 202

SOWHAT, (4th - 5th Grade)

SOWHAT stands for: Stories, Outreach, Wonder, HOLY SPIRIT, Arts, & Theology. At this age, children are ready for more…more insight, more activities, and more sophisticated art projects. Now that the Bible stories learned in Godly Play are part of their experience, they can delve more deeply. This year, the SOWHAT class will ponder questions about sacred spaces or 'thin places'.and how people have found God in places around the world. They will learn together how their own impact on the world as  followers of Christ can make a difference. This class will deeply engage in wondering, finding meaning, and reaching out to people in need. SOWHAT meets in room 204 (in the hallway off of St. Francis Chapel).

4th - 12th graders can further participate in Sunday worship by becoming an acolyte or usher. These roles are highly interactive, which makes them a great way for children to transition from our Children's Chapel program to participating in our communities sacred Eucharist. We provide training so that children will feel comfortable with their assigned tasks. For more information, please contact David Barr at

Cathedral Nite

Unfortunately, we are unable to offer our Wednesday night Godly Play class for the 2017-18 year. However, children are still a very welcome part of our Cathedral Nite offerings. After all, Cathedral Nite's are family events. The nursery will be open from 5:00 to 8:30 pm for children of all ages. Additionally, children are invited to join us for Holy Eucharist in St. Martin's Chapel at 5:30 pm, dinner in Dagwell Hall at 6:00 pm, and we highly encourage one of our excellent children's choirs that rehearse on Wednesday evenings.
